Sciatica
I've suffered for about 8 years with sciatica pain. This year I have finally found a few ways that really help to reduce the pain. Stretching is something that is always helpful if done properly and if the stretches are held for at least 30 seconds, longer if possible. One of the stretches that works best for me is to lie flat on the floor and bring one leg to chest, while holding on to the knee. Pull it up and hold the stretch. Be sure to always stretch both sides, even if only one is giving you pain. I also noted over the years, that although heat seems to make the problem feel better, it actually makes it worse in the long run. Ice is known to work the best. Its not always easy to tolerate, but 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off certainly does the trick. I've gone to weeks of physical therapy and had massage therapy and electric muscle stimulation, but in the long run it has always been the ice and the stretching that has worked well for me. And always remember that for this kind of pain, the body does NOT like to bend over and lean forward. Bend at the knees or squat and it'll be much easier for you |
